Padavalanga Parippu Curry is adapted from the Podalangai kootu, quite famous in Tamilnadu. It is part of their meals and you get dry version also, known as poriyal. In Kerala, it is known as Padavalanga Parippu Thoran. In some recipes for Padavalanga Parippu Curry, they add little Asafoetida/ Kayam. I got this recipe from my Aunt; Kochammu, who introduced us to Dal varieties and creates magic with her simple yet tasty dishes. I will be adding another simple Plain Dal recipe very soon, which is great with rice and Rotis. I love all Dal dishes, like the Onam Parippu Curry, Cheera Parippu Thoran, Parippu Payasam, Parippu Vada etc.
Lentils and pulses are good for growing kids, so try to include them in your weekly menu. Check Van Payar Thoran, Vazhakoombu Cherupayar thoran, Sprouts Thoran, Rajma curry etc. for variety recipes. This Padavalanga Parippu Curry is another simple yet tasty dish that you will definitely enjoy.
