Beef with Mushroom (Stir fried Beef with Mushroom)
Beef with Mushroom or stir fried Beef with Mushroom, is a very delicious and satisfying combination dish that can be served as an appetizer or side dish. Succulent marinated Beef is stir fried to perfection along with bell peppers and mushrooms and coated with savoury sauces. It requires simple ingredients only and can be easily prepared. Great as appetizers, Beef with Mushroom will have your guests singing your praises in no time!! Serve it as a starter or pair it with simple fried rice or Chilli Garlic Fried rice.
Two weeks back, we had a get together at my home, and although I love entertaining guests, I like to keep things simple. I don’t like to spend much time on Appetizers, so I can enjoy time with my guests. Serving them is fun, but I also enjoy watching my guests relishing my dishes . It gives immense joy to see the finished platters and the happy faces.
This stir-fried Beef with Mushroom was a great hit like my Calamari fritters. It was an amazing combination and my guests couldn’t get enough of it. Marinated Beef strips are stir fried to a golden brown and tossed again on high heat with vegetables and sauces to get a perfect finish. You may also like my Honey Chicken, Chilli chicken. You need to get tender Beef steak from the shop and cut into thin strips. Marination is also important, to tenderize the meat. Care should be taken while cleaning Mushrooms also. If you wash them in water for long, Mushrooms will absorb water and it would spoil the dish. I clean the mushrooms and wipe it with wet cloth first and then wash in water and drain immediately. Mushroom has lot of water content, so do take care or you will end up with lot of liquid in your dish. Coming back to Beef with Mushrooms, I have used a mix of Soy sauce and Oyster sauce to perfect the goodness. Just try this recipe and you will thank me later!!
Time: 15 – 20 minutes
Ingredients for Marination:
|: 500 grams
|Ginger Garlic Paste
|: 1 tsp
|: 1 ½ tsp
|: as required
|: one generous pinch
|: 1 tbsp
|: 1 tbsp
|: 2 tbsp
Other Ingredients for Stir fry:
|: 200 gms
|: 4 -5 nos.
|: 6 – 8 cloves
|: 1 big
|: ½ tsp
|Capsicum/ Bell Pepper
|: 1 no.
|: 1 tbsp
|: 1 ½ tbsp
|: a pinch
|: 2 stems
Clean the Beef steak well and cut into thin strips. Pound the strips gently with a mallet or masher. Marinate with enough salt, Ginger Garlic paste, Pepper powder, sugar, vinegar and Soy Sauce and keep for 4 hours. Mix 2 tbsp corn flour to the beef and coat well. Heat a pan and add little oil. Add the beef (in batches) and stir fry for few minutes on high heat till it is brown and coated well. Keep aside.
Clean the Mushroom with a wet cloth and quickly wash in water and drain. Cut each Mushroom into 4 parts. In the same pan, sprinkle oil and sauté Mushrooms on high heat for two minutes and keep aside.
Add 1 tbsp oil and add chopped garlic and cut green chilies. Chop the onion into big squares and add this to the pan. Now add the cubed Bell Peppers/ Capsicum and Pepper Powder. Stir fry for one minute and add Soy Sauce and Oyster Sauce.
Put a pinch of sugar, mix well and add fried Beef strips. Combine well and toss on high heat for 1 – 2 minutes. Finally add the Mushrooms and mix well. Top with chopped Spring Onions.
Transfer to a serving Platter and serve hot. You can serve it as appetizer or as a side dish with Fried rice, Noodles, Naan or Roti.
- Add more green chilies if you like it spicy.
- Pounding the meat makes it tender. Sugar is added to tenderize the meat and brown it.
- Marinating for 4 – 5 hours is recommended to tenderize the meat. You can marinate overnight as well.
- Corn flour should be coated just before stir frying.
- While stir frying Mushrooms no salt should be added to avoid release of water.
- The Onions and capsicum should not be overcooked so just stir fry for a minute to make it crispy.
- You may use Red and Yellow Bell Peppers/ Capsicum for more visual appeal.
- Add salt sparingly to the gravy, as the sauces are salty.
- Adding sugar is to balance the flavors and seasoning.
- If you like with gravy, add more water/ stock and adjust the measure of sauces and add corn flour to make a thick gravy.
