Naadan Chicken Curry with Thengakothu

“ Naadan Chicken Curry with Thengakothu ”, is another special and traditional recipe from our own ‘Kerala’. There are no dearth of Naadan meat recipes in Kerala. Every few kilometers, you get a different Naadan curry either with Coconut Milk, ground or roasted coconut or thengakothu; there are endless varieties and recipes. This Naadan Chicken Curry with Thengakothu is mouth wateringly delicious and you will surely love the succulent Thengakothu and the epic spicy gravy. Authentic style, calls for Naadan chicken, the local, tasty, chicken bred on natural diet. The taste of the chicken, the thengakoth everything is heavenly bliss!! This goes well with all kind of mild breads like Appam, Idiyappam, Pathiri, Roti and rice. This is quite easy to prepare and the outcome is extremely delicious that you will definitely fall in love with it.

Ingredients:

Chicken: 1 kg
Big Onion: 2 nos.
Shallots/ Small Onion: 3/4 cup
Green Chilly: 2 nos.
Ginger crushed: 1 ½ tbsp
Garlic Crushed: 1 ½ tbsp
Coconut pieces: ½ cup
Curry leaves: few
Coriander Powder: 1 ½ tbsp
Chilly Powder: 1 tbsp
Turmeric Powder: 1 tsp
Garam Masala: 2 tsp
Tomato: 1 no.
Coconut oil: as required
Ghee: 1 tsp

Method:

Marinate the chicken pieces with ½ tsp turmeric powder and salt and keep aside for 10-15 minutes. Meanwhile, slice the onions, shallots, crush ginger and garlic, slit green chillies etc. Heat a Kadai, pour little coconut oil, and fry the coconut pieces for a minute in full flame.

Add the green chillies, curry leaves and shallot and sauté for another minute on full flame, stirring continuously. Add the crushed ginger and garlic and sauté for another minute. Next add the onions and Sauté till transparent.

Add the spice powders. Sauté for a few minutes stirring continuously and then add chopped tomatoes and ghee and sauté till oil separates. Add the chicken pieces and combine well with 1 cup water. Cover and cook till done, stirring in between. Your Naadan chicken curry with Thengakothu is ready for serving!!

Tips:

  • Please adjust the spices as per your spice level.
  • Tomatoes should be chopped in cubes.
  • If you want more gravy you can even add thengappal (Coconut milk).
  • Adding ghee enhances the taste, so do not hesitate to try that.
