Fish Fingers, Crispy Fish Fingers with Tartar Dip

Fish Fingers are popular finger food or starters, perfect for a party or get together. Who can resist the crunchy Fish fingers with the creamy tartar dip? This tempting finger food will get over within no time, and the good news is that it is quite simple to prepare and tastes absolutely delicious! For the seafood lovers, Fish Fingers- also known as Fish sticks/ Fish poppers is a real enticing treat like Dynamite Shrimp, fried squid rings or prawns fry.

Light and crispy Fish Fingers are delicate on the inside and tastes great with tartar sauce, Bang Bang /Dynamite sauce, cheese dip, white sauce/ béchamel sauce, Garlic Sauce/ Toum, tomato sauce, Hummus dip or garlic Mayo dip. I used to love Anithachechi’s (my cousin) yummy fish fingers and parsley dip. Her fish fingers were so yummy and we enjoyed it with the delicious dip. Check my Chicken Pasta in white sauce for white sauce/ béchamel sauce recipe. It is a great starter dish when you have one pan meals like Roast chicken for dinner. You can even settle for Fish fingers and a simple Greek veggie salad.

Making these Fish Fingers at home is relatively very easy and it requires only simple ingredients. Any fleshy white fish fillet can be used for this. I have used Basa fillet and it turned out just great. Everything disappeared within no time. Finger foods are always in demand; be it Beef cutlets, Crispy Cones, Lollipop Chicken, Chicken cutlets, Fish cutlets, Chicken Burgers, Potato croquettes, Chinese spring rolls, Thattukada style chicken fry, Chicken 65, Kebabs etc. For chicken lovers, here is the link for pure happiness – my KFC style fried Chicken with video recipe.

My Fish Finger/ Fish sticks recipe is mildly flavored; you can adjust the spices as per your taste. Instead of strips, cut into any shape or size of your choice. You can deep fry the fish fingers for a quick fix or bake in the oven. The tartar dip is a modified version and came out finger licking good. I have mixed store bought Gherkins which gives it a wonderful flavor. You can even add Lebanese pickles for that tangy flavour. Enjoy festive occasions with wonderful Fish Fingers.

Tips:

  • You may use any white fish fillet for this recipe. I used Basa fillet which is easily available here.
  • Fish Fingers are mildly spiced and flavored, however, adjust the spices as per your taste.
  • Use two eggs for better coating.
  • Either Paprika or Kashmiri Red chili powder can be used.
  • Two days old bread gives better crumbs.
  • For Tartar dip, use fresh curd. Sour curd will spoil the taste.
  • You may replace the curd and add lime juice if you like it sour.
  • Gherkins are pickled cucumber or cucumber in brine. It is available in super markets.
  • Garlic flavored Mayonnaise gives added flavors to the dip. Check link to know how to make Garlic Mayonnaise at home.
  • Any Mustard sauce can be used. Use it sparingly as per your taste.
