Paneer Puffs/ Paneer Vegetable Puffs

Paneer Puffs are a wonderful snack idea for children. They just love the crispy, flaky Puff pastry and the Paneer filling. This is such a wonderful way of making them eat all the veggies too. The filling of Paneer Puffs is what makes it a real hit. The Capsicum/ Bell Pepper, Corn, Carrot blends well with Paneer and the flaky Puff makes it even more enticing!

Homemade Puffs are always in great demand, and although I used to make the sheets with Butter earlier to make it healthier, I have switched to margarine now, as it gives the perfect flaky pastry. I always make the Puff pastry sheets in advance and stock in Fridge, and it is always handy when you have hungry kids around. Paneer Puffs are filled with a variety of colorful veggies and kids will love the crispy Paneer puffs. It is a wonderful snack for birthday parties and quite filling too! Paneer is loved by all and Paneer dishes like Paneer PizzaPaneer FingersButter Paneer, Paneer Kulcha, Chili Paneer, Paneer Korma, Palak Paneer, Paneer Pulao are always in great demand. So, adding Paneer with vegetables makes this snack more appealing for kids.

Just follow these simple steps to make these wonderfully delicious Paneer Puffs / vegetable Puffs at home. Enjoy!

Ingredients :

Puff Pastry squares: 10 squares.
Paneer: 200 gms
Onion: 1 big
Ginger Garlic paste: 1 tsp
Kashmiri Chili Powder: 1 tsp
Coriander powder: ½ tsp
Turmeric Powder: ½ tsp
Garam Masala: ¼ tsp
Carrot: 1 small
Green Peas: ¼ cup
Corn kennels: ¼ cup
Bell Pepper/ Capsicum: ½ cup
Boiled Potato: 1 medium
Butter: 1 tbsp

Method:

Boil the Potato, mash and keep aside. Check the link to know how to make puff pastries at home. Take the cold pastry sheets from fridge and keep out to thaw for an hour. Meanwhile, cook the green peas and corn together in little water. Heat butter in a pan and add chopped onions, ginger garlic paste and sauté well. Add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, Garam Masala powder and fry. Chop the carrots into small squares and add to the pan. Mix well with the masala and cover and cook for two minutes on medium flame. Add the cooked corn, green peas and combine well.

Cut the Capsicum and Paneer into small cubes and add to the pan. Fry for some time, adjust salt and cover and cook for two minutes more. Finally add the mashed potato and mix well. Your Paneer Puffs filling is ready.

Roll the pastry sheet and cut into 10 equal parts (rectangular shape).  Put a spoonful of Paneer filling in the lower middle part of the pastry portion. Wet the top side and bottom side with water and bring the top part to cover the filling and seal the wet ends by gently pressing together.  Make two or three deep slits on top with a knife to release the steam. Place in a baking tray and brush with water on tops.

Bake in a preheated oven (220o C) for 25 – 30 minutes or until it turns light golden brown. Take out from the oven and brush the top with melted butter for a rich glaze.

Tips:

  • Check how to make Puff pastry sheets at home.
  • Adjust the spices as per your taste.
  • If you have extra Paneer filling, roll it in Chappathis/ Rotis to make healthy veg. Rolls. It is a great lunch Box idea.
  • Don’t add water to the Paneer Masala. It should be dry.
  • You can make the pastry sheets in advance and keep in fridge.
  • Make sure that the filling is cold before stuffing the Puffs.
  • Butter gives extra flavor to the Paneer mix.
  • Capsicum and Paneer combination is really tasty and the other vegetables compliment the same.
