Sweet Dumplings/ Arabic Sweet Dumplings/ Luqaimat

Sweet Dumplings, crunchy on the outside and perfectly soft inside, is a popular Arabic sweet enjoyed mainly during Ramadan. Also known as Luqaimat or Arabic Dumplings, this is served during Ifthaar in the holy month of Ramadan.  Luqaimat/ Sweet dumplings are served with Dates syrup or honey or maple syrup, and the best thing is that it is quite simple and easy to prepare and requires only simple ingredients.

I became a fan of these Sweet dumplings when I was in Dubai. During Ramadan, all the supermarkets would stock dumpling mix packets and we would relish these. Golden fried dumplings were super easy to make and I missed those after coming to India. Recently, I was trying out some homemade Luqaimat recipes that had milk powder, some with cardamom, but I was not satisfied. The recipe with curd is was what I liked more and after slight adjustments to the recipe, it turned out perfect.

Mix the batter well with a spoon. Heat enough oil in a pan for deep frying. Using a spoon or your hands, scoop little batter and put in the oil. The batter will immediately form a ball. Make more balls the same way. (Do not worry about the shape, initially the balls might seem to come with legs and arms) With a slotted spoon fry the dumplings to a golden brown and drain.
